AMEE appoints former Yahoo! executive as director

AMEE, the world’s energy meter, today announced that Toby Coppel, former Chief Strategy Officer of Yahoo! is joining the AMEE team both as an investor and non-executive director.

During his 8 year tenure from 2001-2009, Toby was a key architect of Yahoo!’s growth from $700 million in revenues to $7 billion. As Chief Strategy Officer, he was responsible for the company’s global strategy development, M&A and strategic partnerships, including its climate and sustainability strategy. Toby was also CEO of Yahoo! Europe and Canada from 2007-2008.

Toby Coppel joined Yahoo! in May 2001 and until recently served as the Managing Director of Yahoo! Europe and Canada. From May 2001 until June 2007, Toby served as the company’s Chief Strategy Officer, responsible for global strategy development, M&A and strategic partnerships. Prior to joining Yahoo!, Toby was at Windsor Media, an investment company he co-founded with Yahoo!’s former chairman Terry Semel. Before joining Windsor, Coppel was a vice president at Allen & Company and he began his career at Goldman Sachs International. Toby is a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute and an Industry Fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute. He holds an M.A. from Oxford University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

George Coelho is Managing Director and Head of Venture Capital for Good Energies. He is also responsible for the European Solar Team. George joined Good Energies from Balderton Capital, formerly known as Benchmark Capital, Europe, which he co-founded in 2000. The fund actively invested in technology companies in all stages of development in both Europe and North America. For Balderton, George Coelho served on the board of several portfolio companies and has acquired specific expertise in software and semiconductors. Before founding Balderton, George led all of Intel Corporation’s strategic venture capital investment activities outside the U.S. Prior to that he was a founder of the group that evolved to become Intel Capital and ran the M&A group as Assistant Treasurer. Previously, he served in a number of senior positions in corporate finance at Nomura Securities, Union Bank of Switzerland and Bank of America.

Alex is responsible for Bloomberg’s Global Core Equity business as well as Government & Regulatory Affairs in Europe. He recently led the company’s expansion into environmental, social and governance information and its promotion as an essential component of mainstream investment processes. He is a serial business angel with a special interest and number of other investments in the Carbon / Energy space (including Climate Change Capital, New Energy Finance, Remote Energy Monitoring, Highview Power Storage and EVO Electric)

Saul Klein joined the London office of Index Ventures as a partner in February 2007. He currently sits on the boards of AlertMe, Glasses Direct, MyHeritage, Lovefilm and Songkick. Saul brings over 15 years of experience successfully building and exiting companies in both the US and Europe as an entrepreneur, seed investor and operator. Most recently, he was the co-founder and original CEO at what is now Lovefilm International and part of the executive team at Skype (eBay).
